DFP/9S – RS232-synthetic fiber converter – Self-powered

0,00

DFP/9S is an industrial electrical converter, RS232 to synthetic optical fiber with screw connector, self-powered via DB9 connector.

The device is completely Plug&Play, since it does not need any driver nor DIP switch. This RS232 serial converter is Full Duplex and it automatically detects the transmission data rate up to 250 kbps, so it can be easily installed in any new or existing network.

It can be used to allow PC or industrial machinery to communicate with an optical fiber serial bus, from DB9 connector with set screws to screw connector.

Description

DFP/9S is an industrial electrical converter, RS232 to synthetic optical fiber with screw connector, self-powered via DB9 connector. It can be used to allow PC or industrial machinery to communicate with an optical fiber serial bus, from DB9 connector with set screws to screw connector. The synthetic optical fiber completely isolates the PC against medium and high voltage surges, which in some cases might be necessary to protect expensive equipment. The device is completely Plug&Play, since it does not need any driver nor DIP switch. This RS232 serial converter is Full Duplex and it automatically detects the transmission data rate up to 250 kbps, so it can be easily installed in any new or existing network.

Use cases

Serial converters are typically used to allow old devices and machinery using RS232 to communicate with an optical fiber bus. RS232 serial standard is still common for industrial appliances, but it has limited transmission range and it is vulnerable to electromagnetical noise. Electromagnetical interferences (EMI) are fairly common in industrial environments, so it is good practice not to use RS232 for serial communication to guarantee signal integrity. In case of heavy electromagnetical interferences, a section of optical fiber is recommended. Furthermore, optical fiber guarantees perfect electrical isolation in case of voltage surges or lightnings.

Versatility

RS232-optical fiber converters are available also without isolation, with different combinations of serial standard, or with other connectors. DFP/9A converter for example is functionally identical to DFP/9S, but requires a 5 V external power supply in order to double the transmission range. IMC/9R and RMC/9R come with an isolated and non-isolated RS485, respectively, from DB9 connector to 3-pins Mini XLR connector. CRM/1S is a RS232 to synthetic optical fiber DIN rail converter, while industrial serial converter BTS/1 allows the communication with a synthetic optical fiber bus via USB. Every combination of serial standard, optical fiber, and power supply, is however available, while special requests (such as higher data rates) can be made via the contact form.
